7:49AM - 6:43PM (10 Hours 54 Minutes)
7:49AM
Starting up now, I'm going to try to figure out that Wi-Fi issue and try to see why my PowerShell scripts weren't working.
7:50AM
I saw Allison on the way out yesterday and I asked her if we can have a cabinet for downstairs in the locker room so that we could organize the IT stuff. She said she had a bunch of them. So next week we can go get one because she's gone Friday.
8:32AM
There's no internet at the TCC building. I found out about this around 7.45, 7.50 while speaking with Chris. I contacted Troy shortly after to let him know, to try to contact Sean from TCC and to let him know. At 8.06 or 8.08 I called TCC mainline. Somebody picked up and I informed them that we didn't have any internet after some maintenance that was being done. She was aware that there was maintenance being done yesterday. She said she'll pass on the message to Maria when she comes in because Allison is not in today. I'm gonna call and follow up with that right now just to try to get an ETA and I'm currently working on a backup solution that I'm gonna have to bring into the office. I'm just trying to find a router right now and trying to get it set up with the LTE. I'm just not sure if the LTE dongle I have is necessarily compatible with the BellSim so I'm checking that out right now. But I will be calling right now to TCC again just to follow up and try to get an ETA timeline on that to see if it's even worth spending my time setting this up right now. But in the meantime while I'm waiting I'm gonna be researching whether or not the bands are supported on this stick for now anyways.
8:51AM
Just got off a phone with the guys. I also got a call from somebody at TCC They said that they're working on it. They're gonna keep giving me updates. They themselves actually suggested that we should have a backup plan of Some sorts because it's it happens pretty often apparently to the guy is what he said So I am gonna keep working on that
8:51AM
We also got an email about the Motorola phones that the order was cancelled, so I'm going to follow up on that and see why that is, and make sure those come in.
8:51AM
Follow up with Motorola. Note why the order got cancelled.
9:51AM
I just got off the phone with Troy. I did find, I did pitch a solution. There is a LTE router that's available at ISP supplies. It's the only one in town. Canada Computers doesn't open until 10, so I wasn't able to find out if they had anything, but Best Buy, Walmart, Staples didn't really have anything that fit the bill. ISP supplies in the east end of town. They do have a Mikrotik Chateau, which is a 4G, 5G LTE router that's available. I believe it's a 4 or 5 port. It costs $250. Troy advised that we are not going to pursue that at this point in time. If the outage continues into Monday, then we have some kind of a plan ready to go. At this point, we're not going to proceed with running around town and doing that. Chances are that the ISP carrier will resolve this within 60 to 90 minutes. It's a standard kind of SLA for business, but it depends on their support contract. It depends on what the issue is. We have no access to the network side, so there's nothing that I could do. I'm guessing that they might have upgraded some kind of an ONT on their side from the fiber, and maybe the changes, either IP or MAC, or some kind of changes haven't propagated or haven't been accepted by the hardware on TCC at the TCC location. It could just be a simple fix as actually unplugging TCC stuff and plugging it back in, or it might be configuration setting on their end, or it might be something with the ONT. It's hard for me to tell because we don't have access to any of that. But they're working on that, and at this point in time, my instructions were to just let it go because people are tethering on Wi-Fi in the office, and everything seems to be working for now, so we won't pursue this.
9:52AM
I did try to set up a router that I have running OpenWrt with a USB modem Huawei USB modem but it was not compatible with the SIM card that I have either that or Bell was blocking tethering but I think that they wouldn't be blocking it I feel like it's just incompatible bands or maybe in my service area it's a weak connection so it just it wasn't performing it wouldn't necessarily have been good unless the network was different in the office so but I am going to abort that now
9:54AM
For future reference, the LTE router that would work is the Mikritik Shatto LTE 6 US. The SKU number starts with D53G, and it has to be the US version in order to be compatible with Bell's network. And it's available at ISP supplies in the East End.
9:55AM
I'm waiting for Amber to call me back to check whether or not Motorola had charged the credit card successfully or not, and then I'm going to be calling Motorola as soon as I hear back from Amber and finding out why they cancelled the order.
10:54AM
Looks like internet was restored at 1048.
10:54AM
Create a way that users can share their desktop on the board in the meeting room.
12:09PM
Still on hold with Motorola, I'm going to apply some settings to the board, the whiteboard so people can connect over there, and disable credential saving on there, so I'm going to make it enter into public mode for RDP sessions so that it's secure.
1:10PM
Just wrote a quick script to keep the logs of the backup so I don't have to check files manually.
1:35PM
Working on an RDP solution for Dylan and Speak of the Devil, that's him calling me right now.
